The hospital expanded in 2005 by supporting the nearby community of Port Hope with a new medical clinic, which provided the village with a physician's office for the first time since 1985. HBCH's current facility opened in 1963; however, its concept was created in 1920 when the Huron Milling Company turned two framed buildings into a hospital for its employees and residents of Harbor Beach. Another company officially turned it over to the city in 1957. HBCH provides care to inpatients and outpatients of all ages who require medical and surgical care.
