Shubhang Dave from The Advisory Board Company presented: The National Prescription for Employee and Physician Engagement: Key Insights and Recommendations for Empowering the Workforce.

Synopsis: The health care industry is bracing for yet another period of uncertainty, and building an engaged workforce that is ready to rise to the challenge has arguably never been more important. This session offered hospital leaders a national perspective on trends in staff and physician engagement, including powerful data the attendees needed to make a business case for investing in engagement and an exploration of key demographic groups whose engagement their strategy should address. The session armed attendees with best practices demonstrated by organizations that are achieving high levels of engagement in spite of a rapid pace of change.

 
8th Annual 'Communities Achieving Excellence and Accountability' Conference at SVSU

Speakers included Robert Fortini, PNP, and Ray King, MD. Fortini is the Chief Clinical Officer for Bon Secours Medical Group and King is Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs & Chief Medical Officer, of Allegiance Health. Population Health Management is a pressing topic within the healthcare arena.

The 2017 conference shared how this is achieved through innovative and transformative actions, providing vision to enhance system performance, improve care coordination, and reduce costs. This can all be accomplished by building on the collective impact model, catalyzed by national and regional thought leaders. Speakers provided conceptual frameworks and case examples related to their experiences in accountable systems of care and patient/person-centered medical homes, enabling participants to continue examining and enhancing their efforts toward improving quality and patient care experiences in the region.

The event was cosponsored by Saginaw Valley State University, Hospital Council of East Central Michigan, Mid-Central Area Health Education Center and Michigan Health Improvement Alliance.

If You Plan to Dance, It's Time to 'Pretty Up'

Greg Paris, MHA, received his undergraduate degree in marketing and accounting from Iowa State University and his master's in Healthcare Administration from Des Moines University. He was named the Iowa Hospital Association Executive of the Year in 2007 and is a member of Studer Group's Hall of Fame. Over the past seven years,  he has worked with Studer Group as a coach, Rural Account Leader and national speaker.

Dr. Barbara Balik works with healthcare leaders to build systems and culture for quality, safety, patient/family experience, and staff-provider engagement. Recent partnerships involved developing skills and systems for patient and family centered care and patient partnerships, excellent patient experience especially with physician communication with patients, reliable transitions in care, and development of effective quality infrastructures for population health. The systems developed assure sustained improvement and innovation.

Diane Stollenwerk, MPP

Diane Stollenwerk is an appointed member of the Maryland Health Care Commission and president of a small consulting firm that provides strategic insight, practical guidance and hands on implementation to improve health and health care. Her expertise is in consumer engagement, performance measurement, accountability, public reporting, effective communication and technology. She has worked on health policy issues for nearly 25 years at the local, state and national levels, including serving as a Vice President at the National Quality Forum.
