HCECM created ECMHF in 1992 to meet various needs. A 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, ECMHF's purpose is to plan, organize, educate and conduct research directed at improving the health status of our communities.
The Foundation builds mutually beneficial and supportive partnerships among groups and organizations concerned with enhancing the health and well-being of the region.
It is also charged with receiving, administering and distributing funds on behalf of comprehensive, community-based healthcare initiatives.
The most recent ECMHF grant project involves the Journey to Health & Wellbeing Program as described in the news below.
The East Central Michigan Healthcare Foundation (ECMHF), an affiliate of the Hospital Council of East Central Michigan (HCECM), is proud to announce the kick-off of a new employee wellness program. The “Journey to Health & Wellbeing” program is a project funded by a 3 year grant that the ECMHF received from the “Covery’s Community Healthcare Foundation” and will provide some amazing opportunities for employees, at each of the participating member organizations, to improve their overall wellbeing.
“The “Journey to Health and Wellbeing” pilot project includes the ECMHF/HCECM and five Critical Access Hospital members that are interested in being part of this initiative. There is a collective total of nearly 1200 employees, from the participating member organizations and the ECMHF, who are eligible to participate in this voluntary program. The Journey to Health & Wellbeing Team has been working for quite some time to develop this custom-made wellness program for employees across the region and we are very excited to get started!” stated Janet Herbert, President of the ECMHF/HCECM.
Effective November 2, 2020, employees will be eligible to participate in the “Journey to Health & Wellbeing,” a web-based program powered by CoreHealth Technologies which is capable of creating a personalized health experience for each employee. The program allows employees the flexibility to choose their own path to wellbeing, focusing on goals and needs that are most important to them. The program will help participants to increase their knowledge, explore fun ways to eat healthier, improve their personal level of physical activity, help each participant to focus on a holistic approach to their overall wellbeing, and much more.
The goals of this Journey to Health and Wellbeing initiative are to promote the health, wellbeing and quality of life of participating employees and eventually the communities each of the participating organizations serve, as they expand the program beyond the walls of their organizations and out to employers in their communities.
An initiative like this involves change at the individual, organizational and community level. We realize that the culture and behavior changes, the “Journey to Health & Wellbeing” hopes to accomplish, will take years to achieve optimal results. However, all along the journey, we will make adjustments to the program to meet participant needs and ensure the greatest impact on employee and community wellbeing and satisfaction. Over the next 3 years, we aspire to: Reduce employee health risks; Contribute to health care cost containment; Improve work culture and employee satisfaction; Decrease absenteeism; Reduce work injuries; Improve retention and recruitment; and improve the overall health and wellbeing of employees and the community.
Health and wellbeing are a life-long journey and we strongly believe that the everyday choices we make can help us live healthier and happier lives, both at work and at home. Therefore, we hope participants will be excited to discover the fun of finding ways to improve their health through activities, challenges, videos, education opportunities and much more!
