Aleda E. Lutz VAMC Offering Moderna COVID-19 Vaccines (Booster)

The Aleda E. Lutz VAMC continues to administer the Moderna COVID-19 two-dose series to all Veterans, their caregivers/spouses, and employees. We are also offering an extra (third) Moderna dose for any of those mentioned who have an immunocompromising condition or equivalent (as defined by the CDC).

Separately, the CDC has approved a “booster dose” specifically for the Pfizer COVID-19 series for those that are 65+ years of age and those with high-risk conditions. We currently DO NOT offer the Pfizer vaccine at any of our locations; therefore, we are NOT offering boosters to this identified population.

Moderna COVID-19 vaccines, including the influenza vaccine are available at our walk-in clinic, located in the lobby of the medical center, at 1500 Weiss St., Saginaw, MI 48602, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The medical center will be hosting additional walk-in flu clinics located at the medical center pavilion on October 2 and October 23, 2021 (Saturdays) from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The vaccines are also available at all nine outpatient clinics on a walk-in basis.

“Our facility knows that fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and flu is truly a team effort. We will continue to make sure we are doing all we can to protect our Veterans, staff and the community against COVID-19 and influenza,” said Dr. Richard Schildhouse, acting Chief of Staff. “Our staff are prepared to offer the third Moderna shot to those at highest risk, following the FDA and CDC recommendations.”

Flu vaccines are also available at no cost to eligible Veterans at more than 70,000 in-network community providers nationwide. To be eligible, Veterans must be enrolled in the VA health care system and received care through VA from either a VA or community provider within the past 24 months (the second requirement is new for the 2021-2022 flu season).

To check their eligibility, Veterans can call 800-MyVA411 (800-698-2411) select option 1, then option 3, and then select option 1 again or contact their local VA medical facility. Veterans can follow these steps to find an in-network provider or call (877)-881-7618 or their local VA medical facility for help locating an in-network provider.

Veterans who would like additional information can visit the VA COVID-19 vaccines webpage, visit our facilities webpage at, contact their PACT Team, or call our flu hotline at 989-497-2500, extension 14507. To find locations to receive the flu shot in the community visit
