Ascension St. Joseph Earns National Recognition for Knee and Hip Replacement and Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals in the U.S.
TAWAS CITY, MI: As part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan selected Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Tawas City as a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement.
"Ascension St Joseph Hospital is pleased to receive this recognition from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan. The Blue Distinction Designation validates the quality of care we deliver to our patients,” said Shane Hunt, Hospital Administrator. “Our doctors, nurses, technicians, therapists and others continue to demonstrate that safe, high quality care can be found right here in Northern Michigan. I could not be more happy for our community and our hospital."
A Blue Distinction Center designation signifies that the knee and hip replacement program at Ascension St. Joseph meets nationally established selection criteria by demonstrating expertise in delivering quality specialty care, safely and effectively. Hospitals designated as Blue Distinction Centers for Knee and Hip Replacement demonstrate expertise in total knee and total hip replacement surgeries, resulting in fewer patient complications and hospital readmissions. Designated hospitals must also maintain national accreditation.
Knee and hip replacement procedures are among the fastest growing medical treatments in the U.S., according to studies published in the June 2014 Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
In addition, Ascension St. Joseph Hospital was also recently named one of the Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals in the United States by The Chartis Center for Rural Health for the third year in a row.
