Ascension St. Joseph Hospital Introduces Virtual Rheumatology Clinic
TAWAS CITY, MI: Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Tawas City has opened a virtual rheumatology clinic. Led by Ascension St. John rheumatology specialist Josephine Patricia Dhar, MD, three patients were seen during the clinic’s inaugural session. The Ascension St. Joseph specialty clinic team assists Dr. Dhar and her fellows with patient assessments using virtual care technology that allows the providers to converse as well as examine each patient.
Physicians specializing in rheumatology diagnose and treat arthritis, autoimmune diseases and pain disorders affecting joints. There are more than 200 types of these diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, lupus, back pain, osteoporosis and tendinitis.
With the pandemic changing people’s attitudes and expectations related to virtual care, individuals residing in northern Michigan can now connect with renown medical experts while remaining close to home. The virtual rheumatology clinic sees patients every third Monday of the month. Primary care providers can refer a patient to see a virtual care specialist by completing a referral form. An intake coordinator will contact the patient in 24-48 hours to schedule an appointment. For more information about the specialty clinic, call (989) 362-0188.
