Families and Staff to Gather at Covenant and Honor Organ, Eye and Tissue Donors Who Gave the Gift of Life
On
Friday, Sept. 28, Gift of Life Michigan, Eversight, and Covenant HealthCare
will host the annual Gift of Life flag raising ceremony at Covenant. Families
and friends of organ, eye and tissue donors will gather with transplant
recipients and hospital employees to honor and remember those who gave the
gifts of life, sight and mobility.
The
program will begin at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of the Covenant Cooper campus (700
Cooper, Saginaw). Shortly following, the group will gather around the flagpole
in the front of 700 Cooper to raise the Donate Life flag.
One
organ donor can save the lives of up to eight people and tissue donors can
improve the lives of up to 75 patients. More than 64 percent of adults – 5
million people – in this state have now added their names to the Michigan Organ
Donor Registry. That number has nearly tripled in the past 10 years.
To
register in less than a minute online, go to www.golm.org.
Residents
can also sign up at ExpressSOS.com or any Secretary of State branch office. Just ask the clerk
to add your name.
