Follow Up To Recent Covid-19 Staff Cases At Marlette Regional Hospital (Updated Tuesday Afternoon, 11/3/20 @ 3 PM)
As an update to the recent COVID-19 cases that were detected within the staff population at Marlette Regional Hospital, the hospital is reporting a total of 7 active cases as of Tuesday, November 3. One case was detected last week, five on Saturday, and one new case Monday. No new cases have been reported on Tuesday. With Marlette Regional Hospital being one of the largest employers in Sanilac County recruiting staff from throughout the Thumb Region, this recent outbreak represents 1.6% of its overall staff population.
Staff testing positive were removed from work immediately, and contact tracing was initiated. Upon investigation and contact tracing, staff who tested positive were from various hospital units. Any staff or patients who may have had close, prolonged contact have been or will be contacted and advised to undergo testing, if deemed necessary.
Since the onset of the pandemic, strict infection control practices have been followed in addition to visitor restrictions, and staff and visitor health screening. In accordance with state regulations, the facility has also conducted routine testing of staff that service its long-term care unit (nursing home) along with its residents.
This is a good reminder to everyone that this virus is highly transmissible and can easily effect everyone, including your family and coworkers, which demonstrates the importance of social distancing, use of a face covering, and performing good hand hygiene through washing and sanitizing often.
The hospital wants the public to know that it is safe to continue to come to the hospital for services. Staff are screened daily upon arrival to work and are asked to stay home if they develop any symptoms that may be suspect for COVID-19. Staff are required to wear personal protective equipment. All visitors are screened and are required to wear a face covering for the duration of their visit. Visitor restrictions are in place and strict infection control and cleaning is performed in all hospital units.
