MRH Walk Challenge Raises Money for American Cancer Society
In May, 156 individuals registered for the MRH 40 Mile Walk Challenge fundraiser for the American Cancer Society Research. They each received a special cancer awareness t-shirt and began walking and tracking each mile they walked. In June, 81 individuals completed the challenge racking up a total of 4975 miles and $1046 donation for the ACS Research fund. Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 10 million deaths in 2020. On-going ARC research is offering cures and extending more lives each year.
This event was coordinated by the Marlette Regional Hospital (MRH) Well Team and the MRH Foundation’s Community Relations Committee. These groups saw the need to provide
an opportunity to put the pandemic aside. It was time to clear mindsets by offering a simple physical challenge that would encourage individuals to get outside, walk, enjoy nature and raise cancer awareness while supporting a worthy cause.
Those completing 40 miles or more in May were entered into a prize basket drawing. Congratulations to Sarah Jesse of Swartz Creek for walking 61 miles. She is the winner of the prize basket donated by Frey’s Designs of Marlette.
