McKenzie Health System Receives Mission: Lifeline STEMI Certification

Sanilac County, Mich. – McKenzie Health System continues to grow its national healthcare certifications and awards, recently receiving the Mission: Lifeline STEMI Referring Center Bronze Award for implementation of quality care for heart attack patients. This recognition acknowledges the organization’s commitment to ensuring science-based treatment for people experiencing a ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), a more severe and dangerous type of heart attack.

This follows on the heels of a rigorous Heart Attack Ready Re-Certification this spring, among other notable awards. Additionally, McKenzie Health System is certified as a Level IV Trauma Facility, Joint Commission Acute Heart Attack Ready Certified, HFAP Stroke Ready Certified, Level 3 Geriatric Emergency Department Certified, and noted for its Emergency Stroke Care-Telemedicine in conjunction with Ascension St. John Hospital’s NeuroOnCall Telemed Network.

Each year, more than 280,000 people in the United States—and nearly 40 percent of people who go to the emergency room with acute coronary syndrome—experience a STEMI heart attack, caused by a complete blockage in a coronary artery. Like all heart attacks, this requires timely treatment to restore blood flow as quickly as possible.

Mission: Lifeline is a national, community-based initiative improving systems of care for patients with STEMI, non-ST elevation myocardial infarction, stroke, and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. The program focuses on streamlining processes to speed the delivery of proper treatment. The Mission: Lifeline Referring Center award is earned by hospitals that demonstrate a commitment to getting patients the most up-to-date research-based care for STEMI as outlined by the American Heart Association.
