Pat’s Pooch Park Grand Opening Set for July 23, 2020 at Tolfree Wellness Park
MidMichigan Health Foundation has finalized the construction of
Pat’s Pooch Park on the campus of MidMichigan Medical Center – West Branch in
the Tolfree Wellness Park. A grand opening for the off-leash dog park is set
for Thursday, July 23, 2020, from 4 to 6 p.m.
“Pat’s Pooch Park is a place where dog owners can feel
comfortable knowing their dogs can get exercise and socialize in a safe space,”
said Nicole Potter, director, MidMichigan Health Foundation. “Not only does the
park promote responsible dog ownership, but it contributes to making the West
Branch community a safe and healthy place to work, live and play.”
The new park will be open for visitors daily from dusk to dawn.
The park includes a five-foot fenced off-leash dog area, divided into one area
for small dogs and one for large dogs, an open sheltered area, benches, and
access to the Tolfree Trails and parking.
“We are excited to host this grand opening celebration and
officially open Pat’s Pooch Park,” said Ray Stover, president, MidMichigan Medical
Centers in Gladwin and West Branch. “This is a great addition to the Tolfree
Wellness Park as it provides an area for dog owners to safely exercise their
pets.”
Pat’s Pooch Park is in honor of Patricia Wiegerink who passed
away in 2018. The family thought combining her two loves would be a great way
to honor Pat.
“Pat had many things that were important to her,” said her
daughter Trisha. “Two of those were giving to the West Branch community and her
love of dogs. With the creation Pat’s Pooch Park, it is her family’s wish that
her memory will live on as the park is enjoyed by all-especially our
four-legged friends!”
“We are grateful to the generous donors who’ve made the park a
reality,” adds Potter.
The MidMichigan Health Foundation is partnering with the Ogemaw County
Humane Society to host an adoption event during the grand opening. Pets
available for adoption will be on the MidMichigan Health Facebook page
beginning the week of July 20, 2020. In addition, Compassionate Veterinary Care
will be at the grand opening to provide information on caring for your pets and
will offer free dog treats.
